OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics)
OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) is a standardized computer system in modern vehicles that monitors the engine and other critical components for issues. It collects data on how the vehicle is functioning, detecting problems that could affect safety, emissions, or performance. When a fault is detected, OBD-II sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and usually lights up the check engine light to alert the driver. Using a scan tool, technicians or vehicle owners can retrieve these codes to diagnose and fix problems efficiently, ensuring the vehicle runs smoothly and complies with emissions standards.
