Nylen-Barany Test

The Nylen-Barany test is a medical procedure used to diagnose problems with the inner ear that cause dizziness or vertigo, often related to benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). During the test, a doctor moves the patient’s head into specific positions while observing eye movements called nystagmus, which indicate if debris in the inner ear is affecting balance. By analyzing these eye movements, the doctor can determine if the inner ear’s semicircular canals are affected, helping to confirm or rule out inner ear disorders responsible for dizziness.
