NVOCC
An NVOCC (Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier) is a shipping company that arranges for cargo to be transported by sea without owning the ships themselves. They act as intermediaries between shippers (those sending goods) and carriers (ocean vessel operators). NVOCCs consolidate shipments from multiple clients into larger containers, negotiate freight rates, handle documentation, and issue their own bills of lading. Essentially, they provide similar functions to a freight forwarder but are recognized as a carrier under shipping regulations. This allows businesses to outsource the logistics of sea freight efficiently and with streamlined documentation.
