NV-CJD (Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease)

Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (vCJD) is a rare and progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by prions, which are misfolded proteins that lead to brain damage. It is often linked to consuming beef from cattle infected with Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE), commonly known as "mad cow disease." Symptoms include psychiatric changes, sensory disturbances, and problems with movement and coordination. As the disease progresses, it leads to severe cognitive impairment and ultimately, death. vCJD is distinct from the more common form of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease and has a strong association with dietary exposure to infected beef products.
