Nuristanis
Nuristanis are an ethnic group native to the Nuristan region in eastern Afghanistan. They speak Nuristani languages, which belong to the Indo-Iranian language family, and have distinct cultural traditions, including unique clothing, music, and spiritual practices rooted in ancient animist beliefs and later Islamic influences. Historically isolated due to rugged terrain, Nuristanis have maintained a strong sense of community and identity. They primarily practice subsistence agriculture and pastoralism, and their society is organized around local tribal structures. Despite modern influences, they continue to preserve many traditional customs, making them a unique and culturally rich group within Afghanistan.
