Nuristan languages
Nuristan languages are a small group of Indo-Iranian languages spoken by the Nuristani people in northeastern Afghanistan's Nuristan region. These languages are distinct from neighboring Persian-related languages and are believed to have preserved features from ancient Iranian languages. There are several Nuristani languages, such as Kati, Kamkata-vari, and Vasi. Due to mountain isolation, these languages have maintained unique vocabulary and grammar, making them important for understanding Iranic linguistic history. Although many Nuristani speakers are bilingual, their languages remain vital for cultural identity and are under threat from dominant regional languages.
