Nurestani people

The Nuristani people are an ethnic group native to the mountainous regions of eastern Afghanistan, particularly in Nuristan Province. They are distinct culturally, linguistically, and historically from neighboring groups, speaking the Nuristani languages, which belong to the Indo-Iranian language family. Historically isolated, they have maintained unique traditions, customs, and religious practices. Their society is often tribal, with a rich oral tradition and distinct cultural identity. Despite external influences and historical upheavals, the Nuristani people continue to preserve their heritage, contributing to the diverse mosaic of Afghanistan’s ethnolinguistic landscape.
