Nupedia

Nupedia was an early online project launched in 2000 to create a free, high-quality encyclopedia. It aimed to have experts write and review articles carefully before publishing, ensuring accuracy and reliability. Unlike Wikipedia, which allows anyone to edit content immediately, Nupedia emphasized rigorous editorial standards and slow, thorough review processes. Despite its ambitious goals, Nupedia had limited growth and popularity, primarily due to its lengthy review process. It eventually led to the creation of Wikipedia, which adopted a more open editing approach, enabling faster content development and wider participation.
