NuMI

NuMI, which stands for Neutrinos at the Main Injector, is a research facility at Fermilab designed to produce and study neutrinos—tiny, nearly massless particles that rarely interact with matter. It creates a focused beam of neutrinos by accelerating protons and directing them onto a target, producing secondary particles that decay into neutrinos. These neutrinos then travel through the Earth to detectors located far away, allowing scientists to investigate their properties and behavior, deepening our understanding of fundamental physics and the universe.
