The Nugent score is a laboratory method used to evaluate vaginal health by examining cell samples under a microscope. It helps diagnose bacterial vaginosis (BV), a common imbalance of bacteria in the vagina. The score is based on the presence of certain bacteria, white blood cells, and cell types seen in the sample. Scores range from 0 to 10: a low score indicates normal vaginal bacteria, while a high score suggests BV.
