Nuchal Translucency Screening

Nuchal translucency screening is a prenatal test typically performed between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy. It involves an ultrasound to measure the fluid-filled space at the back of the baby's neck, known as nuchal translucency. This measurement is combined with a blood test to assess the risk of certain chromosomal abnormalities, such as Down syndrome. A thicker-than-normal nuchal translucency can indicate a higher risk, but it does not definitively diagnose any condition. This screening helps healthcare providers guide further testing and monitoring if necessary.
