NSW Legislative Council
The NSW Legislative Council is the upper house of the New South Wales Parliament, acting as a review and scrutinizing body for legislation passed by the lower house, the Legislative Assembly. Members, known as senators or members of the Legislative Council, are elected to represent the interests of the entire state. They examine proposed laws (bills), debate policies, and hold the government to account through questioning and committees. The Council ensures a balance of power, contributing to thorough legislative assessment before laws are enacted, thus promoting transparent governance and protecting citizens’ rights.
