NREGA (National Rural Employment Guarantee Act)

The National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA), now known as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), is a social security program in India that guarantees at least 100 days of paid, unskilled work annually to rural households. Its goal is to enhance rural livelihoods, reduce poverty, and promote sustainable development by providing employment opportunities, improving local infrastructure, and empowering marginalized communities. The scheme is funded by the government and aims to create durable assets such as roads, ponds, and schools while ensuring wage payments are timely and transparent.
