Notice of Disagreement (NOD)
A Notice of Disagreement (NOD) is a formal written statement a veteran submits if they disagree with a decision made by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) regarding their benefits or claims. It starts the process of appealing the VA’s decision, allowing the veteran to present their case and request a review. Once the NOD is filed, the VA will re-examine the claim, and the process continues until a final decision is made. Essentially, the NOD is the veteran’s way of asserting they believe the VA’s initial decision was incorrect and wants it reconsidered.
