Norwegian Independence
Norwegian independence refers to Norway's transition from being ruled by Denmark and later Sweden to becoming a fully sovereign nation. In 1814, Norway declared independence from Denmark but was soon ceded to Sweden after a brief conflict. Over time, Norwegians sought greater autonomy, culminating in a peaceful independence referendum in 1905 when Norway dissolved its union with Sweden. The process was characterized by negotiations and a desire for self-governance, leading to Norway establishing its own monarchy and government, marking its official emergence as an independent nation.
