Northern Songs
Northern Songs was a music publishing company founded in 1963 by The Beatles and their manager, Brian Epstein. It was responsible for publishing and managing the rights to many of The Beatles’ songs, which significantly contributed to their revenue and control over their music. In 1969, the company was sold to Allen Klein, leading to disputes with The Beatles. Eventually, in 1985, Michael Jackson purchased Northern Songs, acquiring the rights to many classic Beatles songs. The company played a key role in shaping music publishing rights and exemplifies how song ownership affects artists’ income and control over their work.
