Northern Light Infantry
The Northern Light Infantry (NLI) was a regiment of the Pakistan Army, primarily composed of soldiers from Pakistan-administered Kashmir and northern regions. It specialized in mountain warfare, patrols, and defense in rugged and challenging terrains. The NLI played a key role in border security and conflict zones, particularly during the Kargil conflict in 1999. Known for their expertise in guerrilla tactics and high-altitude operations, the NLI was an important component of Pakistan's military operations in the mountainous northern areas. It was disbanded in 2003, with many of its personnel absorbed into other military units.
