Northern Ireland Troubles

The Northern Ireland Troubles (late 1960s–1998) was a violent conflict mainly between unionists/loyalists, who wanted Northern Ireland to remain part of the UK, and nationalists/republicans, who sought union with Ireland. Rooted in historical, religious (Protestant vs. Catholic), and political tensions, it involved paramilitary groups, security forces, and civilian casualties. The conflict centered on identity, sovereignty, and civil rights, leading to bombings, shootings, and social unrest. The Good Friday Agreement of 1998 helped bring peace by establishing power-sharing Government and addressing underlying issues, although some tensions remain.
