North West Mounted Police
The North West Mounted Police (NWMP), established in 1873, was a Canadian law enforcement agency created to maintain order, enforce laws, and secure the western frontier. It was tasked with preventing illegal activities such as moonshining and addressing disputes among Indigenous peoples and settlers. The NWMP also helped map and explore the region, contributing to the development of Western Canada. In 1904, it became the Royal Northwest Mounted Police (RNWMP), eventually evolving into the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), which continues to serve as Canada's national police force today.
