Norms theory

Norms theory suggests that people's behaviors are influenced by the unwritten rules or expectations—called norms—shared within a group or society. These norms guide individuals on what is considered acceptable or appropriate in specific situations. When someone acts in line with these norms, they are seen as fitting in; when they deviate, they may be judged or corrected. Essentially, norms shape how we act based on what we believe others expect, promoting social harmony and coordinated behavior without the need for explicit commands.
