Normothermic Preservation

Normothermic preservation is a method used to keep organs, such as the heart or liver, in a functioning state outside the body. Unlike traditional cold storage, which slows down the organ’s activity, normothermic preservation maintains the organ at normal body temperature (around 37°C). This allows the organ to stay healthy and active, making it easier to assess its function before transplantation. It often involves circulating oxygenated blood or a special solution to provide nutrients and remove waste. This approach can improve the success of organ transplants by reducing damage and ensuring the organ is working well.
