Nonspecific Interstitial Pneumonia (NSIP)
Nonspecific Interstitial Pneumonia (NSIP) is a type of lung condition where the tissue surrounding the tiny air sacs (alveoli) becomes inflamed and scarred, affecting breathing. Unlike other lung diseases, NSIP has a more uniform pattern of inflammation and scarring, which can improve with treatment. It often causes symptoms like shortness of breath and cough. NSIP can be linked to autoimmune diseases or occur on its own. It is diagnosed through imaging tests and lung biopsies. Treatment typically involves corticosteroids and immunosuppressive medications to reduce inflammation and prevent further lung damage.
