Nonconforming Use
Nonconforming use refers to a situation where a property or business operates in a way that does not comply with current zoning laws or regulations. This often happens when an existing use was legal before new zoning laws were established, such as a factory in a residential area. Although the use is considered "nonconforming," it may be allowed to continue operating, usually under certain conditions, to avoid disrupting established practices and to respect property rights. However, if the nonconforming use ceases for a period, it may lose its legal status and must then conform to the new zoning rules.
