Non-Resident Indian (NRI)

A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) is an Indian citizen who resides outside India for work, education, or other reasons, typically spending significant time abroad. Despite living abroad, NRIs maintain their Indian citizenship and cultural ties, and often continue to own property, invest, or send remittances to India. They are distinguished from persons who have formally acquired foreign citizenship. NRIs play an important role in India’s economy through investments and remittances, and they retain certain legal and financial privileges related to their Indian nationality.
