Non-REM Sleep
Non-REM sleep, short for non-rapid eye movement sleep, is a phase of sleep characterized by slower brain activity, reduced movement, and relaxed body functions. It is divided into three stages: light sleep, deeper sleep, and very deep sleep. During these stages, your body repairs tissues, builds energy, and strengthens the immune system. Non-REM sleep makes up about 75% of your total sleep time and is essential for feeling rested, concentrating, and maintaining overall health. It gradually transitions into REM sleep, when most dreaming occurs.
