Non-linear optics is the study of how light interacts with materials when the light's intensity is very high, causing the material's response to become non-linear. Unlike normal conditions where light travels through a medium unchanged, in non-linear optics, the material's properties change with the light's strength, leading to effects like new colors, frequency doubling (halving or doubling the light's frequency), or the generation of new light waves. These phenomena are important for advanced technologies like laser systems, medical imaging, and telecommunications, enabling precise control and manipulation of light beyond standard behavior.
