Nociceptive Pathways
Nociceptive pathways are the body's communication routes that detect and transmit pain signals. When tissue is injured or damaged, specialized nerve endings called nociceptors send signals through nerve fibers to the spinal cord and brain. These signals are processed to recognize pain, alerting us to harm and prompting protective actions. The pathways include different nerves for sharp, localized pain and dull, aching pain, and they involve series of relay points that modulate how pain is perceived. Overall, nociceptive pathways are essential for survival, helping us respond to injuries and avoid further damage.
