Noakhali Riots
The Noakhali Riots of 1946 were violent attacks primarily against Hindu residents in the Noakhali region of Bengal (now Bangladesh), triggered by communal tensions following India’s Partition plan. Rumors and political unrest fueled mobs to attack Hindu homes, temples, and individuals, leading to widespread violence, displacement, and loss of life. The riots underscored the deep communal divisions and contributed to the growing demand for a separate Muslim homeland, eventually leading to the creation of Pakistan. The events remain a tragic example of religious violence during a tumultuous period in Indian subcontinent history.
