NLRP3 inflammasome

The NLRP3 inflammasome is a part of the immune system that detects danger signals, such as infections or cell damage. When activated, it triggers a process that releases chemicals called cytokines, especially IL-1β and IL-18, which promote inflammation. This inflammation helps the body fight off threats, but if it is overactivated or misregulated, it can contribute to chronic inflammatory diseases like arthritis or gout. Essentially, the NLRP3 inflammasome acts like an alert system, coordinating immune responses to maintain health or, in some cases, contributing to disease.
