Nizari
The Nizari refers to a branch of Ismaili Shia Islam centered around the followers of Hassan-i Sabbah and his successors, known for establishing a network of fortified strongholds called “fiefs” during the medieval period. They are historically recognized for their loyalty to the Shia Imamate and their emphasis on secretive leadership, intellectual study, and strategic defense. The most famous group within the Nizari tradition is the legendary “Assassins,” who used targeted political killings as a means of influence. Today, the Nizari Ismailis mainly follow the Aga Khan, a spiritual leader, and focus on community development, education, and social welfare.
