Nizam-e-Jadid, meaning "New System" in Urdu, was a movement started by the 19th-century religious scholar Shah Waliullah and later promoted by Sir Syed Ahmed Khan. Its goal was to bring renewed focus on Islamic teachings, education, and societal reform. The movement aimed to modernize Muslim communities, improve their understanding of Islam, and encourage scientific and rational thinking while preserving religious identity. It emphasized education, social progress, and a return to fundamental Islamic principles, seeking to empower Muslims to adapt to changing times while maintaining their spiritual and cultural heritage.
