Nixon Tapes

The Nixon Tapes are recordings of conversations recorded secretly by President Richard Nixon’s staff during the Watergate scandal in the early 1970s. These tapes captured critical discussions related to the cover-up of illegal activities linked to his administration. When investigators sought access, Nixon initially refused, citing executive privilege, but the Supreme Court ruled he must release them. The tapes revealed Nixon’s involvement and ultimately contributed to his resignation in 1974. They are important historical documents that highlighted issues of presidential accountability and the limits of executive power.
