Nissl stain

Nissl stain is a technique used by scientists to highlight certain parts of nerve cells, called neurons, in brain and spinal cord tissue. It specifically binds to ribosomal RNA in the cell's nucleus and surrounding areas, making these regions visible under a microscope. This allows researchers to observe the size, structure, and organization of neurons, aiding in the study of neural anatomy, development, and diseases. The stain produces a purple or blue coloration, providing a clear contrast that helps distinguish neurons from other cell types in nervous tissue.
