Nishiki-e
Nishiki-e is a traditional Japanese woodblock printing technique developed in the 17th century, renowned for its vibrant colors and detailed aesthetic. Artists carve images into wooden blocks, then apply different colored inks to each block to create layered, richly hued prints. Often used for ukiyo-e, or "pictures of the floating world," Nishiki-e features scenes from landscapes, theater, and daily life. This method allows for colorful, mass-produced artworks that blend craftsmanship with artistic expression, significantly influencing Japanese art and inspiring Western artists in the 19th century.
