NIPT

NIPT, or Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing, is a blood test performed during pregnancy that screens for certain genetic conditions in the developing baby, such as Down syndrome. It works by analyzing tiny fragments of fetal DNA circulating in the mother’s blood. Since it’s non-invasive, it poses no risk to the baby, unlike invasive procedures like amniocentesis. NIPT provides valuable information early in pregnancy and helps expecting parents and healthcare providers make informed decisions about further testing or preparations. However, it’s a screening test, meaning it assesses risk rather than providing a definitive diagnosis.
