Niobe

Niobe is a figure from Greek mythology, renowned for her tragic pride. She was the queen of Thebes and believed herself superior to the goddess Leto because she had many children—14 in total. Offended by her hubris, Leto’s children, Apollo and Artemis, punished Niobe by killing all her sons and daughters. Overcome with grief, Niobe fled and was transformed into a stone that continuously weeps, symbolizing sorrow and hubris. Her story serves as a warning against arrogance toward the gods and highlights the consequences of excessive pride.
