Nickel-cadmium batteries

Nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries are rechargeable energy sources that use nickel oxide hydroxide and cadmium as their positive and negative electrodes, respectively. They store electrical energy chemically and can be recharged many times. NiCd batteries are known for their durability, ability to deliver high current, and performance in extreme temperatures. However, they contain toxic cadmium, making recycling and disposal important to prevent environmental harm. While they have largely been replaced by newer types like lithium-ion batteries, NiCd batteries are still used in specific applications such as aviation, emergency equipment, and power tools due to their reliability.
