NGBs in the United States
NGBs, or National Governing Bodies, are organizations in the United States responsible for overseeing specific sports or athletic activities. They establish rules, certify athletes, support teams, and promote the sport’s development at all levels—from local communities to international competition. NGBs work with governmental agencies, athletic associations, and coaches to ensure safety, fairness, and growth of their sports. Examples include USA Basketball and US Soccer. They serve as the official links between athletes and the broader sports system, helping to prepare competitors for events like the Olympics and fostering the sport’s overall advancement.
