Ngarrindjeri history
The Ngarrindjeri are an Indigenous people from the Murray River, Lakes, and Coorong regions of South Australia with a history dating back thousands of years. They have a rich cultural tradition centered on connection to land, water, and their ancestors through Dreaming stories and ceremonies. European colonization in the 19th century profoundly impacted their way of life, leading to displacement and cultural changes. Today, the Ngarrindjeri continue to preserve their language, traditions, and assert their rights, working towards cultural revival, land management, and reconciliation while maintaining a deep spiritual relationship with their country.
