Nezara viridula (green stink bug)
Nezara viridula, commonly called the green stink bug, is a global pest recognized by its bright green body and distinctive black markings. It feeds on a wide range of plants, including vegetables, fruits, and legumes, by piercing plant tissues and sucking out sap. This feeding can cause distorted growth, blemishes, and reduced crop yield. When disturbed or crushed, they emit a foul-smelling odor as a defense mechanism. While they are not harmful to humans directly, their presence can compromise agricultural production. Managing green stink bugs involves habitat control, physical removal, and, when necessary, targeted pesticide use.
