Nez Perce War
The Nez Perce War of 1877 was a conflict between the Nez Perce tribe and the U.S. government. The Nez Perce, a peaceful Native American group, tried to resist forced removal from their ancestral lands in the Pacific Northwest to a reservation in Idaho. Led by Chief Joseph, they attempted to flee to Canada to find safety but were pursued by U.S. troops. Despite their efforts and skilled navigation, they were eventually caught near the border, resulting in surrender. The war highlighted tensions over Native land rights and U.S. expansion policies during that period.
