
Newton's Law of Viscosity
Newton's Law of Viscosity states that the force needed to slide one layer of a fluid past another is directly proportional to the rate at which the layers slide past each other (called shear rate). The constant of proportionality is called viscosity, which measures a fluid’s resistance to flow. Essentially, thicker fluids like honey have higher viscosity and resist movement more, while thinner fluids like water have lower viscosity and flow easily. This law helps us understand and predict how fluids behave under different forces and flow conditions.
