New Zealand Tahr
The New Zealand Tahr is a wild goat species native to the mountainous regions of New Zealand. It has a sturdy body, thick brown or reddish fur, and distinctive curved horns in mature males. Tahr are excellent climbers, adept at navigating steep, rugged terrain to escape predators and access food. They graze on grasses, shrubs, and mosses, mainly in alpine areas. Introduced in the early 20th century for hunting and conservation, they are now managed as a game species, with populations controlled to protect native ecosystems from overgrazing.
