New London Group

The New London Group is a collective of educators and researchers who, in the late 1990s, introduced the concept of multiliteracies. They emphasized that literacy is more than reading and writing traditional texts; it includes understanding and creating meaning across diverse media, cultures, and contexts. Recognizing rapid technological and social changes, they advocated for teaching strategies that develop students' ability to navigate and make sense of multiple modes of communication, such as digital media, images, and multimedia. Their work aims to prepare learners to be effective, adaptable communicators in an increasingly interconnected and multimedia world.
