New Jersey Plan

The New Jersey Plan was a proposal in the late 1700s to revise the Articles of Confederation, advocating for a stronger central government. It called for a single legislative body where each state would have equal representation, regardless of population size. This aimed to protect smaller states’ interests from larger states dominating the government. The plan suggested giving the federal government authority to tax and regulate commerce. Although it was not adopted, it influenced the creation of the U.S. Constitution by highlighting the need for a balanced system of representation.
