New Jersey Family Leave Act
The New Jersey Family Leave Act (NJFLA) allows eligible employees to take up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave in a 24-month period for specific family-related reasons. This includes caring for a newborn, adopting a child, or tending to a sick family member. The law aims to protect employees’ jobs during this time, ensuring they can return to their position after their leave. To qualify, workers must meet certain criteria, including having worked for their employer for at least 12 months and for a minimum number of hours. It complements federal family leave protections under the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
