New Gourna Village
New Gourna Village is a historical project in Egypt designed by the famous architect Hassan Fathy in the 1940s. Its goal was to create affordable, sustainable housing for local residents using traditional building techniques and natural materials like mud bricks. Located near Luxor, the village aimed to preserve local culture and craftsmanship while providing modern comforts. However, despite its innovative design, many residents never moved in, and the village faced challenges like funding issues and preservation concerns. Today, New Gourna stands as an important example of sustainable architecture and efforts to blend modern living with traditional methods.
