Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL)
The Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) is a large swimming pool used by astronauts to practice spacewalks and other extravehicular activities (EVAs). By adjusting the water’s buoyancy with weights and suits, astronauts experience a sensation similar to floating in space, allowing them to develop skills, troubleshoot equipment, and rehearse procedures in a realistic environment. This controlled setting helps ensure safety and proficiency before actual space missions, bridging the gap between training on Earth and working in the weightless conditions of space.
