The neuroscience of perception explores how our brain interprets sensory information from our environment—such as sights, sounds, and smells—to create our experience of reality. When sensory receptors detect stimuli, they send signals to specific areas of the brain, which process and integrate this data. This complex process allows us to recognize objects, understand sounds, and perceive space and movement. Understanding this helps reveal how our brain constructs our conscious experience and can explain differences in perception, such as illusions or sensory disorders.
