Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinoses
Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinoses (NCLs) are a group of rare genetic disorders that mainly affect the brain and nervous system. They cause progressive degeneration of nerve cells, leading to a range of symptoms, including vision loss, seizures, cognitive decline, and motor difficulties. NCLs usually begin in childhood and worsen over time, ultimately impacting quality of life. The condition is associated with the accumulation of harmful substances in cells, which disrupts normal function. Currently, there is no cure, and treatment focuses on managing symptoms and providing support for affected individuals and their families.
